About Me
Lauren Smith (she/her) is an artist born and raised in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). Her works typically utilise an array of traditional practices such as drawing and painting; all mainly focusing on concepts related to the human experience and sentimentality. Lauren’s works, largely observational exist as ‘snapshots’ of memories and motifs which appear to be quite distinctive and familiar to the artist; often playing with nostalgia and a sprightly atmosphere. This is primarily embodied through vivid depictions of everyday encounters and endeavours in the natural environment. She is currently undertaking her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at RMIT University majoring in a drawing studio, in which she strives to emerge as an established artist.
Personal Acknowledgement of Country
Lauren Smith would like to personally acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, specifically the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nation, where we currently work and reside today. I am particularly grateful for this beautiful terrain, and acknowledge Australia’s invasive colonial founding which ultimately has shaped my experience as I know it today. This always was, and always will be Aboriginal Land.
