Dotonbori, Osaka
Dotonbori is a flamboyant tourist destination bustling with people day and night. It was very overstimulating whilst walking through, especially from the viewpoint of someone who lives in a less populated area, though the street felt much more alive and vibrant than what I have experienced before. In particular, I enjoyed the large, moving features on restaurants, such as the iconic crab which sways its legs around. I personally love Japan’s bright and colourful signage on all of its buildings, something which is less apparent back in Melbourne- it definitely brings a positive energy with it.
Whilst differing to my usual point of focus for my artistic practice, this street showed me that positive energy and happiness can be embodied in busy, urban areas as well as in nature. Whilst I continue to find myself more gravitated towards natural, undisturbed environments, its definitely fun to explore what the polar opposite has to offer.
